The final stage of creating a work of art, decoration of decorative work or art photography is the selection and production of a frame. The frame is an important part of the image, although it is intended only to decorate it.

How well the frame is chosen, how it matches its style to the work, it is enclosed in it, depends on how the exhibit will look. The frame is the clothes of paintings, prints, photographs. Like a person, what you want to show is greeted by dress. Without proper decoration, the work will lack expressiveness, it will be " naked ".

Like clothes, the design consists of several parts:

  • baguette ;
  • glass ;
  • passpartout;
  • actually, what we want to put in frame;

The purpose of the print is to create a margin between frame and image. This field facilitates the integrity of the perception of the work, enhances the aesthetic effect of the work. The monotony of the cardboard frame creates a calm atmosphere around the work, separating it from the decoration of the frame, wall decoration, and focusing the viewer's attention on the work itself. The volumetric field gives " air " extra depth.

To see the importance of the print, try experimenting. Take some small-format image - a photograph, a child's drawing, even an illustration from a magazine - and hang it on the wall. Evaluate what impression the image makes on you as a viewer.

Then take a sheet of white paper - ordinary, office, glue your "work" to the sheet, and hang it again in the same place. Look moreonce - you must agree, quite another matter.

This technique helps to choose the right size of the print fields, the color of the cardboard, and other points. Passepartout frame made of cardboard and paper can have different textures - matte, glossy, textured. The main thing is that its color and appearance do not obscure the work being done, but, on the contrary, emphasize its merits by its neutrality.

Passepartout is not always used in artwork. Sometimes the decoration only consists of a frame. In some cases, the frame molding has a profile that imitates the presence of a mat.

If, after all, the frame has a mat, as a rule, such a design is more expressive. The cardboard frame occupies a borderline position: on the one hand, it refers to the frame, and on the other hand, it begins to be perceived as part of the image.

The cardboard frame itself can act as an independent frame for photographs, small prints or drawings, embroidery, etc. Making a simple cardboard frame, as everyone knows, is not difficult. But on the other hand, such an addition will not only decorate your favorite photo, but also make it expressive.
